Welcome to Not Your Ordinary Traveller!

Hi, I’m Sheila Tran!

I am currently working in Aviation and have always enjoyed travelling. Three years in the field and twenty countries later, it’s safe to say I have been bitten by the travel bug.

“Not Your Ordinary Traveller” was bred from an interest to explore the behind-the-scenes of how an airline operates, as well as to share some of my personal travel experiences, tips and more!

I graduated from Aviation Management, a 3-year program offered by Seneca College in Canada.

The number one question I received from my friends and family about my career in Aviation was “Do you want to be a Flight Attendant or Pilot?”. I admit that when I first started my program, those were the only jobs that I was aware of as well. After graduating, I learned that there is a multitude of different career paths in Aviation such as Flight Dispatcher, Air Traffic Controller, Crew Scheduler, Operation Control Manager and more.

My Story

After graduating high school, I had no idea what I wanted to do. While my friends were all off to college and university, I went from part-time to full-time at the burger joint I was working at. I didn’t want to go to school unless I was sure I would love what I was studying.

I looked at different college and university programs, but nothing interested me. I continued to look but I felt unmotivated so I slowly started to give up on my search. The following year rolled around and I stumbled upon Aviation Safety, which is a 3 year program at Seneca College. I looked at the overview of the program and it really enticed me. It seemed very unique and the idea of working in the Airline industry was so fascinating.

Ultimately, it was one of the best decisions that I have ever made. I made friends that became family, I got an amazing job shortly before I graduated and had the amazing opportunity to travel the world.
