Sandra Bedard

Q: How long have you been working in the aviation industry and where have you worked?

A: Last month was my 33rd year in the airline industry. I started as a Flight Attendant with Wardair. The company merged with Canadian Airlines where I continued as an inflight crew member and later got laid off. I returned a few years later as a reservations / Meda and help desk agent. The Second merger with Air Canada brought me to Crew Scheduling where I worked for 18 years and now I am a Crew Network Manager.

Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in aviation?

A: Born and raised in the Airforce has definitely inspired me to pursue a career in aviation. My love and fascination for airplanes and helicopters have always been my biggest motivation. The thrill and excitement of watching planes land so close I can almost touch the belly! My brother and I used to go to the best places and watch those aircraft touch down.

Q: What do you love most about working in aviation?

A: For 33 years my path has been mainly with inflight and crew. It is the best of both worlds to me. Planes and people. Helping, serving and making great connections. Aviation is a huge industry however, it is at the same time a very small world! The opportunity is always there in the airline industry.

Q: What do you like to do in your free time?

A: In my free time I do lots of Arts & Crafts. I am an avid swimmer. Biking and hiking. I draw and colour when I am stressed. It helps me unwind. And puts a little bit of colour in my day. I am learning piano. Travelling has also inspired me to enjoy food and cooking. I cook with love and passion. For relaxing, I have my audiobooks on, and I watch Biographies, documentaries and lots of movies & series.

Q: What advice do you have for those who want to work in aviation?

A: Follow your passion. Your heart and your gut. When I was a young adult I struggled for a long time to decide what I wanted to do with my future. I had many passions and at that time I was a Master swimmer, lifeguard and training to be a Swimming Instructor where I excelled. Now I have it all, I still swim and I am still working with the Airline. It is a big family with like-minded people who share the same passion.
